Mt. Shasta earlier today. View from the offramp to Weed, CA. Almost home. Skipping out of San Fransisco in a Chevy Conversion van from the early 90’s with a TV that doth not work, but still seems cool to have. There are many unsettling smells in this van. Mostly of the rank variety. Onward.

CFC - Suckramento

I was in this band way back when. I replaced a guitarist with the same name and soon spent a few summers playing shows and recording various DIY demos—it was the fun thing to do in the San Gabriel Valley, I guess.

I recently spent some time in Sacramento and immediately remembered this song, so i feel like it’s a good time to post this.
One of my favorite shows involved playing an extravagant sweet sixteen birthday party in La Cañada—think of MTV’s Super Sweet 16. We ended up getting paid more than any of our favorite bands have ever made at a 200 capacity venue, which was ridiculous, but we couldn’t turn it down. Oh, did I mention we dressed up as characters from the Wizard of Oz for this show? I was the scarecrow.

Easily the United State’s best venue. The first band I saw at the Mohawk was Dinosaur Jr and it made me lose my hearing. The next night, I saw The Hold Steady and it made me very optimistic.

“Stop looking at my paper and copying my answers, Reynold!” The whole class looked up from their papers to the scene that was taking place in the middle of the room between Otis and the new kid. The teacher didn’t do a thing except laugh; the kids were just taking a survey to see what they want to eat on their upcoming field trip. -cj

I went to see Darker My Love at the Natural History Museum while this was going on within walking distance. I remember getting there late and dressing up like Captain Kirk—yellow long-sleeve shirt, black slacks, and one of those iconic Star Trek badges. I wore fake glasses to give the impression that I was a Star Trek nerd; a Trekkie. My friends left early to go to another party, but I decided to stay to meet up with some friends who were already inside. What a mess it was standing in that line with people calling out to the people handling admission to let them in. I stayed quiet under a tree while I tried to get a hold of those who were inside to get me in somehow. Then out of the blue, a guy dressed as Jesus asked me if I was by myself and then let me in because I “looked like I was being patient”. Thanks? On my way in I saw guy dressed as Spock; we gave each other a high-five. Darker My Love covered Nirvana songs and were dressed like fast food.
